Dr. Urs Breitenstein is a founding Partner of Hoffman & Partner. He advises companies from various industry sectors incl. life sciences on financing, acquisition or disposal of companies and assets.

Before co-founding Hoffmann & Partner, Urs worked as an equity analyst for a Swiss bank and later as an M&A consultant for PricewaterhouseCoopers and, most recently, for Deloitte in Zurich, where he was a partner. He developed the valuation and business modelling team in Switzerland and was simultaneously responsible for the mergers and acquisitions department. He has worked on several international projects, providing him with outstanding expertise in complex cross-border assessments and corporate transactions.

Dr. Urs Breitenstein studied at the graduate school of the Swiss National Bank in Gerzensee and holds a doctorate in economics (Dr. rer. pol.) from the University of Basel.

The Basel-based energy service provider IWB is taking over the solar plant specialist Senero AG. In line with its strategy, IWB intends to further accelerate its growth with renewable energies in Switzerland. Senero is gaining support in the rapidly growing national market environment and will benefit from IWB’s structure, size and integrated range of solutions. IWB is focussing on expanding electricity production – primarily with and at its customers. By 2030, the company aims to install 150 to 200 megawatts of photovoltaic capacity (MWp) on roofs and facades for private and business customers. Around 55 MWp have already been installed since the beginning of 2024. IWB is already working on this with its subsidiaries Planeco GmbH and Kunz-Solartech GmbH. Now another company is joining them: Senero, based in Winterthur. IWB’s aim is to continue to grow in the PV business and to utilise the enormous potential for the construction of new plants throughout Switzerland. Senero currently employs 25 people and has been offering advice, installation and servicing of photovoltaic systems for 20 years. Batteries and charging stations for electric cars are also part of the range. Every year, the team installs around 120 photovoltaic systems – and the trend is rising.

Senn Chemicals AG (“Senn Chemicals”) announces the closing of the acquisition by Granules Peptides Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Granules India Limited (“Granules”) today April 10th, 2025. The acquisition enables Senn Chemicals to support its future as a leading peptide manufacturing company. Already back in February 2025, the Senn Family signed a share purchase agreement to transfer 100% of the shares of Senn Chemicals to Granules. Since its founding over 60 years ago by Guido Senn, Senn Chemicals has been a private, family-owned Swiss CDMO specialising in peptides. After a careful evaluation of potential ownership transfer options, the family decided to sell the company to Granules, a vertically integrated pharmaceutical company, focused on manufacturing and selling of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), pharmaceutical formulation intermediates (PFIs), and finished dosages (FDs). The Senn Chemicals brand and its site in Dielsdorf, Switzerland, will operate under Granules’ ownership, with a commitment to maintaining the company’s scientific excellence and customer focus. The acquisition brings Senn Chemical’s expertise in Liquid-Phase Peptide Synthesis (LPPS) and Solid-Phase Peptide Synthesis (SPPS), along with a strong CDMO business and established customer relationship, including innovators and brand owners across Pharma, Cosmetics, Amino Acid Derivatives (AAD) & theragnostic segments together with Granules’ market presence in India and the USA. Together with Senn Chemical’s expertise Granules gains the capabilities into high-growth peptide-based therapeutics. The acquisition aligns with Granules’ vision to enter the rapidly expanding peptide-based anti-diabetic and anti-obesity market, including GLP-1 receptor agonists and other next-generation therapeutics. Granules and Senn Chemicals have active in the development of GLP-1 based APIs, and more peptide-based APIs are planned to be developed using Senn Chemical’s R&D capabilities. The acquisition marks Granules’ foray into CDMO segments, leveraging Senn Chemical’s existing CDMO business and customer relationships, on back of its R&D and manufacturing platform. With this transaction, Granules will leverage Senn Chemical’s European presence and innovation-driven peptide platform to accelerate its CDMO expansion and meet the fast-growing demand for Amino Acid Derivative (AAD), peptide fragments, and peptide-based therapeutics. Senn Chemical’s presence in Europe provides access to a skilled R&D talent pool and regulated market clients, further strengthening Granules’ global footprint.
